J. YATES D. of the DIAMOND 2 RANCH
Yates is a 6’ plus Cowboy born in Socorro New Mexico. He is 35 years old and as he said, he has been a Workin Cowboy, “Forever.” He couldn’t imagine doing anything else. The first Ranch that hired him was” The 7UP Ranch” in Prescott Arizona when he was the ripe old age of 10. Other Ranches Yates has hired on with were “The Diamond A” in Seligman Az., The” Bogles Ranch” and “The Wagon Bow” in Wikieup Arizona. From what I can find out it seems as though the Bogles and the Wagon Bow are gone, subdivided and being sold off. Our Western heritage is disappearing.
Yates is currently working at the Diamond 2 Ranch located in the Bradshaw Mountains in central Arizona. The Ranch encompasses 50 sections, at 640 acres per section, of private and leased land in Yavapai County.
Ranch Foreman Yates tells me they are raising cattle that are a cross between Angus and Brahma called Brangus. When questioned about what he does when work is done, {actually it is never done on a workin ranch}, and he said he enjoys Ropin, Rodeos, and Buckin Horses. The last I saw of him he was on his Quarter Horse “Gunner” headed out to take car of some unknown problem with his cow dog “Katchum” close behind. Yates is a personable young fella with a gift of gab. He has an easy smile when talking about his lifestyle, That of a “Workin Cowboy.”
