Hat Sizing
I've had hats that fit the first time I put them on, and then I've had hats that I've had to really work with, to get them to fit good. Sizing strips can be used, if the hat is a tad too large. Steam from a tea kettle or getting it damp and wearing it dry also works. I have even used a hat stretcher once or twice. I must say, I never had a hat I wasn't comfortable with, after adjustment. OK, first off you'll need a friend and a cloth tape, like the one a fella uses to measure your trouser inseam. It should read both inches and millimeters.
Incorrect fit is very possible, if extreme care is not taken. Heads come in all shapes and sizes, and fitting a hat is not an exact science unless you have an expensive custom hat made specifically for you by a master hatter. However, with sizing strips and a hat jack, you can adjust the shape and size of your hat to fit comfortably, as long as you didn't order one to small. That is why we tell you, if your measurement falls between two sizes, order the larger one. To measure, look straight ahead and have your helper measure your head with the cloth tape OVER the hair. The tape should be a half Inch above your eye brows and the same above your ears. Make sure the tape is slightly slack - but not loose. You should be able to feel the tape, but it should not be tight - or the fit will be the same: "tight". Measure twice to be sure. Match your head measurement to the closest corresponding hat size (at right). If your measurement is between two sizes, choose the larger one, and let me know and I'll include some sizing tape with your order. Once you know that size hat you need, check out what we have available. If you cannot find a hat in your size, send me an email of what you are looking for. Please include size, straw or felt, color and a picture of the style preferred. Then sit back and be a little patient and let me see what I can find for you.
