Kenny H. is proud of his Western Heritage, being a 5th generation Arizonan. His Great, Great Grandpa had a Cattle Ranch in Rye, Arizona area, years back. Kenny was born in Globe, in April 1975, but home was the Spring Creek Ranch in Young that his Great Grandpa originated. After graduating high school in Young, he went to work for the Tilting H Ranch, and later signed on with the Buzzard’s Roost Ranch, where he further honed his skills as a Workin Cowboy. In 2002 he landed a job with the West Fork Ranch in Peeples Valley, becoming the Head Wrangler, raising and training horses; something I’m told he is very good at.

At the West Fork, Colts are born and raised, and spend the sunshine-filled days running throughout the irrigated, white fenced pastureland. Once the Quarter horses are 2 years of age, Kenny’s talents are used to train them as Performance, Work or Rodeo Horses. Ken’s Horses are some of the finest in Arizona.

It is not often I get to met someone who is as confident, in what they do, as Kenny. He loves the life of a Workin Cowboy, and cannot imagine doing anything else. When he has the time, his passion is to saddle up Juniper, his quarter Horse, and hunt Lions in the rugged Bradshaw Mountain area. The day I met with him, they were having a Barbeque at the West Fork. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, listening to the Cowboys relating Tall Tales of past Cattle Drives, Lion Hunts, Old Cowboys they have known, great Dogs and Horses they had owned, and Wild Trails they have rode.

The day we met for a Photo shoot, Kenny had left early that morning aboard “Juniper,” trailing 2 Pack Horses loaded with salt for Cattle in the far reaches of the Ranch, which meant he wouldn’t be available till later in the day, so I made an appointment with another Cowboy that took up most of the day. Kenny blew in to the West Fork, around 4PM, in his Dodge hauling a horse trailer full of Saddled Horses and a Tassel of dogs, all trying ta Out Bark one another. Photo shoot went well, finishing up with Ken unsaddling the Horses and tying them off to 3 different poles, for a well deserved cool-down wash. By that time of day, I’m sure I appeared bedraggled cause Kenny asked if I wanted him ta hose me down-- NOT!
