Help4MDYouth.org is an initiative of the Maryland Youth Crisis Hotline Network. The Maryland Crisis Hotline Network was established in 1990 as the Maryland Youth Crisis Hotline. Maryland was the first and remains the only State with a comprehensive, decentralized hotline network. A caller in Maryland simple dials the toll-free number and accesses a hotline center in their region. All centers operate 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365 days a year. Now the Maryland Crisis Hotline Network is providing online crisis chat services Monday-Friday 4pm-9pm.
Currently, there are five (5) centers participating in the Maryland Crisis Hotline network. They are: Community Crisis Services, Inc., Grassroots, Mental Health Association of Frederick County, Mental Health Association of Montgomery County, and the Life Crisis Center. Each center is accredited by the American Association of Suicidology and is sanctioned by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as well as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration via the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
The online chat initiative is possible through a Garret Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention Grant.
